Federico Valverde was the star of the show during Real Madrid’s 2-0 win over RB Leipzig on Wednesday night.

It would have been a frustrating night for the 14-time champion and European champion until Valverde finally broke through in the 80th minute.

Anxieties were heightened by the hosts when Vinicius, scorer of last season’s Champions League final winner, was denied by Peter Goulasi from close range.

Madrid finally broke the deadlock, with Valverde deployed on the right side of the attack to great effect, cutting inside and curling home with his weaker left foot.

He showed great pressing ability and won the ball back for the team. On the ball, he picked out the right pass for his teammates with great composure and ended his stunning performance with a fine goal.

It was his third goal in six games after strikes against Celta Vigo and Mallorca and the 24-year-old continues to show why he is more popular in the position.

Fans were quick to express their appreciation for Valverde on social media.

“His vision and long balls are underrated,” said one fan.

Another tweeted: “A generation of talent. Another legend from Madrid.”

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano also praised the midfielder, saying: “The best man of the game. Pure leadership, is one of Ancelotti‘s favorites.
